War is a gruesome reality that is often romanticized in literature while the truth is that war is just gruesome.
Aside from the romanticized version of glorious battles won for patriotic purposes, war is sometimes necessary for the plot. The best stories are those that mirror our own lives and unfortunately, war is a bitter reality for many in the world.
I think that is why I appreciate a good magical battle. War is already such an ugly truth, it’s nice to have the separation from reality that fantasy has to offer.
